Wound Care

Wound Care Centers

The Christiana Care Wound Care Center provides technically advanced, surgical and non-surgical outpatient care to heal wounds that resist conventional therapy. Our capabilities include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which can greatly improve healing and reduce healing time for some patients. Our skilled team evaluates and treats your wound, and establishes measures to prevent recurrence.

We provide care for chronic, non-healing wounds that have not shown improvement in four weeks or have failed to heal within eight weeks. These include:

  • Neuropathic ulcers in patients with diabetes.
  • Ulcers on ischemic limbs (poor circulation).
  • Pressure ulcers due to immobility.
  • Venous stasis leg ulcers.

At the Wound Care Center, we measure success by how well our patients heal. More than 87 percent of our patients are discharged within eight to 14 visits, depending on size and severity of the wound and other medical factors. We have received four National Healing Achievement Awards for excellence for exceeding the national healing average among Wound Care Centers in the United States.

Patients must have a physician's referral to be treated at the Christiana Care Wound Care Center. All diagnostic studies and evaluations needed to treat chronic non-healing wounds can be done within the Christiana Care Health System.
