Critical Care Internship
This unique program integrates educational components with preceptor-led clinical experiences to ease the transition to critical care nursing.
- Biannual program: February and June
- Graduate Nurses: 24-week program (one step-down & two ICU rotations)
- Registered Nurses: 18-week program (two ICU rotations)
- Program offers the following rotations for you to select from: CICU, CVICU, MICU, SCCC (surgical/trauma), WICU, ED
Eligibility
- Nurses who have graduated from an accredited nursing school
- RNs with less than 12 months nursing experience
- Participants must pass state boards and be licensed as an RN in Delaware
- Commitment to work at Christiana Care for 24 months after completing the internship

Emergency Department Nurse Internship
This program has been devised by nurses and physicians in the Emergency Department at both Christiana and Wilmington Hospital's to allow for a smooth transition for qualified candidates from floor nursing to ED nursing.
- Emergency-specific classes taught by the nursing and physician staff
- One-on-one RN and physician preceptors
- Short rotations through departments highly correlated with the ED, including Cardiac Cath, Labor & Delivery, and Surgical Critical Care Complex.
Eligibility
- Nurses who have graduated from an accredited nursing school with less than 12 months of RN experience.
- RNs without critical care experience with less than 12 months of RN experience.
- Participants must pass state boards and be licensed as an RN in Delaware.
- Commitment to work in the ED for 24 months after completing the internship

Medical Nurse Internship
Christiana Care is proud to offer a Medical Nurse Internship to GN's and New RN's. The Medical Nurse Internship is offered twice a year; February and June.
The Medical Nurse Internship Program (MNIP) is a unique 16-week program that integrates educational components with preceptor-led clinical experiences on the medical units. The medical nursing units serve an adolescent/adult/geriatric population with a wide variety of complex medical & cardiac diagnoses. Upon completion of this program, the participants will have built a strong foundation for nursing practice in a fast-paced, challenging environment. In return for the comprehensive orientation and training, an employment agreement will be required upon completion of the training program.
Requirements: Applicants for this program should be recent graduates from an accredited school of nursing or have less than 6 months of nursing experience. Program participants will be required to pass NCLEX and be licensed as an RN in Delaware. Full time orientation is required, with commitment to work at Christiana Care for 20 months on a medical unit after completing the internship.

Neonatal Nurse Internship
Christiana Care, an integrated healthcare system, seeks nurses to join this specialty program at our Christiana Hospital location. This program has been devised by the nurses and physicians in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This program allows for a smooth transition from GN to the RN role in the NICU nursing career path, for those candidates qualified.
Eligibility Requirements
GN's who have graduated from an accredited nursing school with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. RN's with less than 12 months of experience. Participants must pass the NCLEX and be licensed as an RN in Delaware.

Perioperative Nurse Internship
The perioperative nurse is an integral part of a patient-focused team dedicated to providing safe, quality care to surgical patients. The Perioperative Internship Program is the foundation for our comprehensive perioperative didactic, simulation and clinical orientation. This program is facilitated by the Perioperative Nurse Internship Manager and other resource staff from the Christiana Care Health System. Students will learn the theory and principles of surgery as well as perioperative nursing in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases of the patients' surgical experience.
The program is offered once a year and begins with a 14 week time frame that includes didactic instruction, simulation lab, and clinical experience. Experienced perioperative preceptors are assigned to each student for the clinical experience and competencies are completed each clinical week. Formal classes and simulation labs are held at the VEST Center on the Christiana campus.
Once the initial didactic program has been completed, clinical orientation continues for 3 months in the OR. The student will complete an additional 3 - 6 month orientation depending on OR site. There is a 24 month Full Time employment commitment between the staff nurse and the Christiana Care Health System after the initial 6 month orientation.
Candidates will have the opportunity to interview for openings available at the Christiana Hospital and Wilmington Hospital. All candidates will know their assigned location prior to starting the Internship Program.
Eligibility
- Nurses who have graduated from an accredited nursing school or will have graduated prior to the Internship's September start date.
- Current Registered Nurses from other disciplines or specialty areas.
- Participants must pass state boards and be licensed as an RN in Delaware or be eligible for Delaware RN licensure.
- Commitment to work Full Time for 24 months following the 6 month program at Christiana Care within Perioperative Services.

All candidates must complete a multi-step interview process, including the participation in a shadow day, to ensure the candidate has a significant grasp of the perioperative environment and believes he or she can function positively and productively within that environment.
