Center for Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases

About the Center for Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases

As a center of excellence, Christiana Care's Center for Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases works closely with the American Diabetes Association and the Delaware Diabetes Coalition. The center is recognized for medical excellence by the National Committee for Quality Assurance and the American Diabetes Association.

Access to new treatments

At the Center for Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases, you'll have access to the most effective medicines and treatments, based on the latest medical evidence and best practice standards. Our physicians are also medical researchers who are continuously looking for new and better methods to treat or cure all types of diabetes.

In addition to our own investigative studies, members of our team regularly participate in
national clinical trials and pharmaceutical research, which can allow us to offer you new drugs and devices before they become available to the general public.

All of our studies meet state and federal regulations and are approved by Christiana Care's Institutional Research Review Board. Recent studies have included:

  • Inhaled insulin treatment.
  • Insulin for Type 2 diabetes.
  • Treatment of painful diabetic neuropathy.
  • Preventing hypertension and dyslipidemia.
  • Treatment for diabetic foot ulcers.
  • Blood vessel function.
  • Diabetes and obstructive sleep apnea.
  • New treatments for Type 2 diabetes.

Our expert team

The specialists at Christiana Care's Center for Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases will work with you and your physician to provide you with the best care possible.

  • Endocrinologists are doctors who specialize in the care of people with diabetes and other metabolic disorders. They will develop and supervise your treatment plan.
  • Nurse practitioners with advanced training in diabetes work closely with our endocrinologists. They will monitor your treatment and can prescribe and adjust diabetes medications, insulin, and diet and exercise plans.
  • Certified diabetes educators are registered nurses or dietitians. They will teach you about nutrition, exercise, blood-sugar monitoring, diabetes medications, insulin and insulin pumps.

In addition, doctors who specialize in heart disease, foot care, kidney disease, orthopaedics, nerve problems, vascular surgery and ophthalmology are available for consultation, care and services when you need them. Our team is backed by the resources of the entire Christiana Care Health System.
